Perfect Squares

A perfect square is a number or expression that when square rooted, results in a whole number or expression made up of whole numbers and terms.

Examples

  1. 9 is a perfect square as its square root is 3. (A whole number)

  2. 4x2 is a perfect square as its square root is 2x. (A whole number and term)

  3. (x + 4)(x + 4) = x2 + 8x + 16

  4. (x - 5)(x - 5) = x2 - 10x + 25

  5. (a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2

  6. (a - b)2 = a2 - 2ab + b2
