• 4a + 2b + 3a = 7a + 2b
   
• 10a - 3a + 5b = 7a + 5b
   
• 5xy + 8yx - 2x = 13xy - 2x
   
• 21c -3d -18c = 3c - 3d
   
• a + 2a -3b = 3a - 3b
  (note : a is the same as 1a)
   
• 2x² + 3x² + 4x = 5x² + 4x
  (note : x² and x are not 'like')
   
• 8y² - 3y - 9y² = -y² - 3y
