  1. 3(x + 2) = 21
    First expand brackets
    3x + 6 = 21
    Take 6 from both sides
    3x = 15
    Divide both sides by 3
    x = 5

  2. 2(c - 3) = 30
    Expand brackets
    2c - 6 = 30
    Add 6 to both sides
    2c = 36
    Divide both sides by 2
    c = 18
  1. 4 - 2(n - 4) = -3
    Expand brackets
    4 - 2n + 8 = -3
    Collect 'like' terms
    12 - 2n = -3
    Take 12 from both sides
    -2n = -15
    Divide both sides by -2
