Worked example The annual budget of a business is: Wages £50,000 Material £200,000 Administration £20,000 Others £30,000 Illustrate this data on a pie chart: In order to make each 'slice' the right size we need to calculate the size of the angle.

Wages £50,000 50000 x360° 300000 60° Materials £200,000 200000 x360° 300000 240° Admin £20,000 20000 x360° 300000 24° Others £30,000 30000 x360° 300000 36° Total £300,000   360°

The amount for each category is expressed as a proportion of the total amount and then multiplied by 360° (there are 360°in the whole circle).

Alternatively, you can work with a spreadsheet package e.g. Excel and the angles are worked out for you!
