Rules for Adding Fractions
 

  • If there are any mixed numbers
    either add the whole numbers separately
    or convert them into improper fractions.
  • Find a common denominator (lowest common multiple).
  • Change the numerators in the same ratio as the denominators i.e. whatever you did to the bottom do the same to the top.
  • Add the numerators.
  • Keep the denominator the same.
  • Convert to a mixed number if necessary.

It sounds complicated but with practice you will find you can do it easily!!!!
