Dividing Complex Numbers

Similar to the division of surds (see Unit 1). Instead of 'rationalising' the denominator it is 'realised', i.e. it is transformed into a real number.  

To Divide Complex Numbers

• Multiply the top and bottom by the conjugate of the bottom (this gets rid of the imaginary part on the bottom).
• Simplify and express your answer in the form ai + b.
